The Axis Chinese Programme

Small group. Logic-first. Built around your child specifically.

This is not a standard tuition programme. Every element, the class size, the diagnostic entry, the teaching method, the session structure, is designed around one principle: a child needs to understand Chinese before they can perform in it.

How Learning Progresses

Every student moves through four stages. The pace depends on the child, not the calendar.

Step 1 — Logic-Gap Diagnostic

Before anything else, we identify exactly where your child’s understanding breaks down, not just what they haven’t memorised, but where their reasoning stops working. This shapes everything that follows, including which programme your child enters.

Step 2 — Foundation Anchoring

We build the logical foundation first. Semantic DNA for characters. Sentence Architecture for grammar. Every concept is anchored to a reason before we move forward. Logic before speed, always.

Step 3 — Guided Application

Students apply the frameworks to real exam formats — comprehension, 造句, 作文. At the PSLE Prep level, this extends to 综合填空 and 阅读理解 under timed conditions. Every exercise is tied to a specific logic the child has already anchored.

Step 4 — Consolidated Confidence

Consistent anchored exposure builds the kind of confidence that holds under exam pressure — not familiarity with content that fades after results day.

Two Programmes. One Method.

Axis Chinese runs two programmes built on the same Anchored Learning method. The difference is focus. The diagnostic determines which one your child enters.

Foundation Programme — Primary 3 and 4

Primary 3 is where the MOE syllabus shifts from recognition to application. This is where most children either build a strong foundation or start accumulating gaps that compound all the way to PSLE.

The Foundation Programme teaches children to decode characters through Semantic DNA and construct sentences through Sentence Architecture. The goal is to replace rote memorisation with structured understanding — giving the child a way to think through Chinese rather than just recall it.

Foundation Programme focuses on:

Character logic and radical awareness (Semantic DNA). Basic sentence construction and word-order reasoning (Sentence Architecture). Building independent reading strategies for unfamiliar text. 听写 and 造句 accuracy through understanding, not repetition.

PSLE Preparation Programme — Primary 5 and 6

Students who have anchored the foundation move into exam-focused application. The frameworks stay the same. The goal sharpens: perform under pressure and score.

At this level, lessons are structured around the components that carry the most weight in PSLE Chinese: 综合填空, 阅读理解, 作文. Students learn to apply Semantic DNA and Sentence Architecture under timed, exam-format conditions. Every session is built to close the gap between what your child understands and what they can put on paper when it matters.

PSLE Prep focuses on:

综合填空 — contextual vocabulary application. 阅读理解 — comprehension with structured answer construction. 作文 — composition planning, paragraph architecture, and linking words. Exam technique and time management under pressure.

Placement Is Diagnostic-Driven

We don’t sort students by school level alone. A P4 student with strong fundamentals may be ready for PSLE-level application. A P5 student with gaps in character logic or sentence structure needs foundation anchoring first.

The diagnostic tells us — and you — exactly where your child stands. No guesswork. No assumptions.

INSIDE AN AXIS CHINESE LESSON

Every session follows the same principle — understanding before application, logic before speed.

We open by revisiting a concept from the previous session to check what has anchored and what needs reinforcing. Then we introduce new material through the Semantic DNA or Sentence Architecture framework — always with a reason, never just a rule to copy.

The second half of the session is applied practice. Students work through comprehension and composition exercises in real exam formats. Errors are corrected in the moment with an explanation of the logic behind the correction — not just a red mark and a right answer.

Questions are encouraged throughout. A child who asks why a child is who is building understanding, not just compliance.

Learning Environment

Small by design. Not by limitation.

Maximum 6 students per class. Individual attention within group learning. Calm and focused classroom setting. Questions encouraged throughout every session.

The class size is not a constraint we’re working around. It is the method requirement. Anchored Learning only works when the teaching responds to the specific child in front of it — not the average of the room.

What Parents Typically Observe

We won’t promise a specific grade improvement. What we can tell you is what parents consistently notice over time.

First 1–2 months

Greater clarity in understanding questions and instructions. The child starts asking why a sentence is structured a certain way rather than just copying it. For PSLE Prep students, comprehension answers become more structured and deliberate.

3–4 months

More structured answers and improved consistency. 造句 and short-answer responses show visible logic rather than guesswork. Foundation students begin reading unfamiliar characters with confidence. PSLE Prep students show stronger performance in 综合填空 and 阅读理解.

Around 6 months

Stronger confidence approaching exams. The child has internalised enough of the logical framework that unfamiliar questions no longer produce the same anxiety. 作文 responses show clearer paragraph structure and more deliberate use of linking words.

Placement is based on the diagnostic assessment, not school level alone. Classes may include students from adjacent levels working at the same foundation stage.

Diagnostic Session — Logic-Gap Assessment

1 session · 1 hour · $30

This is not a trial class. It is a focused assessment of how your child currently processes Chinese — where their understanding holds and where it breaks down. You receive a one-page Student Logic Profile after the session: a plain, written picture of your child’s gaps and what anchoring is needed.

The diagnostic also determines which programme your child enters — Foundation or PSLE Prep — based on where their reasoning actually sits, not just their school year.

There is no obligation to continue after the diagnostic. Some parents use it simply to finally understand what they’re looking at.

The $30 diagnostic fee is fully offset against your first month’s fees upon enrolment. If you continue with the programme, the diagnostic costs you nothing extra.

Deposit

A one-month deposit is required to reserve your child’s place. This is held and applied as the final month’s fee when you give proper notice to end — so nothing is lost.
